Morningside Heights Loft: Carved from two densely packed prewar apartments, an open loft, celebrating light and flowing space, is created for a family of five.  The living area, with a family room, living and dining areas, and a study, centers on a spare, walnut and white laquered open kitchen.  The continuity of spaces is enhanced by the use of translucent polycarbonate panels for sliding doors.  All very active, the family has a dedicated exercise/workout space with a rubber floor and resilient finishes.  Central air conditioning was integrated into dropped ceilings with knife-edge soffits that emphasize the space’s lightness.

Battery Park Apartment: The boats drift by the living room windows of this Battery Park City apartment combination.  The enlarged living space centers on a new open kitchen that both gets to share in the view and further open the space to the ample Hudson River views and intense west light.  A teenager’s small bedroom is fitted with a built-in loft bed over a desk, a reading nook and bookcases.  The parents’ area features a library/office and a renovated, enlarged bathroom.
